Throughout the month of October, we’ll bring you regular “Conference Countdown” posts that preview our fast-approaching annual event! Register today for the 5th Annual Schweitzer Fellows for Life (FFL) Conference: Achieving Health Equity Together on October 28-29, 2011.

At ASF’s upcoming FFL (alumni) Conference, 2003-04 New Hampshire-Vermont FFL Meghan Duff will facilitate a plenary session titled “Called to Serve: Moments of Challenge, Contemplation, and Connection.”

Duff is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Psychology & Community Studies Program at University of Maine, Machias and a member of Psychologists for Social Responsibility. Previously she worked in the community mental health system as a child and family mental health therapist and adolescent substance abuse treatment provider.

Duff will draw on those experiences while facilitating her conference session, “Called to Serve”:

Albert Schweitzer said, “The only ones among you who will be truly happy are those who have sought and found a place to serve.” This facilitated discussion will explore why we are called to serve, what we learn about ourselves and others in the process of serving them, how our service experiences enrich our lives and challenge us, and the moments of joy that sustain us. Having reflected on their own experiences and learned from others’, session attendees will emerge energized and inspired.
