How to get elementary school kids excited about physical activity? Teach them to step dance!

That’s exactly what North Carolina Schweitzer Fellows Donna Simmons and Nailah Adams have done over the course of their Fellowship year.

These two Duke University School of Medicine students worked with Citizen Schools to conduct “Step it Up” – an after-school healthy lifestyles education program with a dance component at Lowe’s Grove Middle School.

And on December 9, 30 of the students’ hard work culminated with a step dance performance in front of family, friends, and community members at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, NC.

As these pictures show, much fun was had by all!
